“A Foreign Affair”: The Screening Room column in the Jan. 29 Calendar section said that the 1948 Billy Wilder comedy “A Foreign Affair,” which was being shown at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, was banned in Germany by the Defense Department until 1977. The Defense Department banned the movie during the U.S. occupation of Germany after World War II, and the movie apparently wasn’t shown there until 1977, but the ban itself didn’t last until 1977.
