Rodriguez’s homer wins game in 15th
Alex Rodriguez broke up an electric pitchers’ duel in the 15th inning with his first homer in three weeks, giving the New York Yankees a 2-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.
A day after the Yankees bashed Boston, 13-6, A.J. Burnett of the Yankees and Josh Beckett set the tone in a game that became the rivals’ longest scoreless matchup.
Burnett and five relievers combined on a four-hitter in the first Boston-New York game to go into extra innings scoreless since 1976
Derek Jeter singled to lead off the 15th and Rodriguez lined a shot off Junichi Tazawa (0-1), who was making his major league debut, to left-center with two out to give New York its 10th walk-off win of the season.
