Off-duty sheriff’s deputy shoots man in Boyle Heights

An off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy who went to the aid of his girlfriend at a Boyle Heights restaurant Saturday shot a man who was among a group that confronted him, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. in a parking lot near the Mariscos Puerto Escondido restaurant in the 3700 block of Whittier Boulevard, law enforcement officials said.

They said the deputy’s girlfriend was jumped by several women when she went to the restaurant’s bathroom.

When her boyfriend attempted to go to her aid, several men confronted him, said L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Whitmore.
