New Year’s Eve parties in L.A.

Weren’t we supposed to be partying with robots on Mars by 2010? While someone’s working on that, L.A.’s finest night owls have prepared some stellar parties for us to celebrate the beginning of this new decade. Here are a few of the best. But before you read further, please note: Lineups and ticket prices are subject to change, so call ahead before heading out Thursday night.

Twenty Ten: A Space Odyssey

L.A. Center Studios

The club kingpins at Dolce Group have teamed with the event producers at Pandora Nightlife to take over L.A. Center Studios, an 18,000-square-foot soundstage. Shiny Toy Guns will headline, Geisha House and Ketchup will set up pop-up restaurants, a balloon drop resembling a meteor shower will go down at midnight, and there’ll be an open bar all night. The all-ages crowd will go bump in the night at this legal rave featuring electronic superstars David Guetta, John Digweed, Markus Schulz, Dubfire and Sander Kleinenberg. General admission tickets cost $60 to $80, and VIP tickets, which include backstage access and an open vodka-and-beer bar, cost $125 to $150, depending on when tickets are purchased. 3939 S. Hard NYE

Hollywood Palladium

“Around the world in eight hours” should be Hard’s motto this year, with DJs from Berlin (Boys Noize), Paris (Mehdi), Montreal (A-Trak) and our fair city (Destructo) spinning hip-hop, electro, techno and disco house music for an all-ages crowd of sneaker freaks. Neighborhood New Year’s

Tony’s Saloon

No money? No problem. Arrive with five friends, and the friendly folks at Tony’s will hand you a complimentary bottle of Champagne. New Year’s Eve

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

Hip-hop legend Grandmaster Flash will take over the decks for the hotel’s annual New Year’s Eve bash. Other DJs slated to spin include the EC Twins, DJ Mei-Lwun, Compression Crew and Zack Hill. But the entertainment doesn’t stop there. In addition to a multimedia midnight countdown, complimentary Champagne toast and balloon drop, the lovely and ever-stylish Aqualilies will perform their erotic take on 1950s water ballet in the pool by the Tropicana Bar. 7000 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles; 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.; www.homemadela.com.

No Hassle New Year’s

Oakfire Pizzeria & Pub

No cover! No set menu! No dress code! It gets even more awesome. Not only is this trendy pizzeria and bar opening its arms to the neighborhood, but it’s also setting up a free pizza buffet and pouring free Champagne at midnight. First New Year’s

The Varnish

Why wait to get the party started? The Varnish is kicking its doors open at 7 p.m. for snazzy $9 Champagne cocktails until 9:30. DJs Above & Beyond, Christopher Lawrence, Cosmic Gate and Kristina Sky will spin clubbers into a trance in the Bonaventure’s California Ballroom for Giant’s annual NYE bash. At the neighboring Poolside Plaza Deck, deep house will be the name of the game with Miguel Miggs, Marques Wyatt, Boris M.D. and Ryan Sage on the decks. Thinking of getting a hotel room? Here’s an incentive: Stay two nights -- Thursday and Jan. 1 -- and free access to Giant’s DeCompression event the following evening at the Lakeside Lobby Bar & Lounge shall be granted. Afrobeat, Brazilian, dub, reggae and Indian beats reign at Jeremy Sole’s weekly Thursday night party. To spice up the evening even further for the holiday, he’s invited DJ Garth Trinidad (KCRW-FM) to guest on the turntables, African master drummer Najite Agindotan to perform and Capoeira Batuque to do their Brazilian martial arts-dance combo to samba drummers. In addition to the free-flowing global vibe, free Champagne will overflow glasses at midnight.
