SATURDAY’S RESULT

No. 3 Westchester 85, Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln 78

Leading contributors: Junior guard Jordan Mayes scored 31 points, senior guard Dominique O’Connor had 24 and junior forward Dwayne Polee Jr. had 10 for Westchester. Guard Lance Stephenson scored 26 points and senior forward James Padgett had 23 for Lincoln.

The scoop: O’Connor made 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter for Westchester, which scored 21 of its 25 points from the free-throw line in the quarter.

Why it matters: Westchester completed a two-game season sweep of a national power at Trenton, N.J., on the same day it secured the top seeding in the City Section Division I playoffs. “It was pretty impressive to beat a team like that twice with a player that talented,” Westchester Coach Ed Azzam said of Lincoln and Stephenson. The Comets head into the postseason having won 14 of 15 games, with the only loss coming against second-seeded Fairfax. “I feel very good about this group and their consistency,” Azzam said.
