I wish someone would please tell T.J. Simers to stop writing about the life expectancy of humans in the sports pages. If the McCourts learn that humans are now living to be 115 years old, they will begin signing even older players.

It is hard to imagine the Dodgers advertising their 2008 NL West championship without the one player responsible for that feat. Then watching that same player walk onto Chavez Ravine in an Angels uniform or, gasp, even worse, a Giants uniform. At least Ned Colletti will have something to do with building a championship, maybe not in Los Angeles, but for his old buds in San Francisco.

I hate to throw a wet blanket on the hot stove, but without championship-caliber pitching, Manny Ramirez or any other middle-of-the-order hitter is not going to make the Dodgers a championship team. With 24,000 season tickets in the bank (they say), the Dodgers should be focusing on improving the pitching staff and then if a Manny Ramirez becomes available, so much the better.
