Ann Powers’ article on the increase of performers who lack the ability to be real because there is no “real” for them on or off stage or this industry is spot-on. (“When Fake Feels Real,” July 12)

With everything being about instant gratification, reality TV and the serious lack of artistic original ideas -- it’s no wonder that we are all ending up with talent that will be forgotten in a few years.

Reading Ann’s explanation of how these artists can’t differentiate from the onstage persona to the real offstage person because they are just copying is brilliant and so true. They are being pushed to do that. It’s what sells.

Being a frontperson is a huge responsibility to be real, and if more people understood that, we would have more artists like Ziggy and Freddie Mercury.
