Jim Thome hits 550th homer in White Sox victory

at Chicago 6, Oakland 2: Jim Thome hit the 550th homer of his career in the eighth inning to put the White Sox ahead for good. A.J. Pierzynski homered and Scott Podsednik scored two runs for the White Sox, who won for the fourth straight time and have won 10 of their last 13. Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer in the first for the Athletics, who have lost five of six and have the worst record in the American League. Holliday’s seventh homer of the season was off White Sox starter Gavin Floyd.

Baltimore 1, at Seattle 0: Rich Hill threw seven scoreless innings and Adam Jones and George Sherrill came up big against their former team. The Orioles sent former ace Erik Bedard to the Mariners for top outfield prospect Jones, reliever Sherrill and three other players in 2008. Jones doubled and scored the only run on a sacrifice fly by Aubrey Huff off Jarrod Washburn in the sixth inning. After Jim Johnson struck out two in a perfect eighth, Sherrill finished for his 11th save.
