CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / CYPRESS
Vandals painted death threats, profanity and anti-Muslim slurs on the walls of the Islamic Center of Cypress early Thursday, authorities said. The graffiti is being investigated as a hate crime.
A patrol officer spotted the still-wet paint in the 5000 block of Ball Road about 4 a.m. The city has painted over the scrawl.
“Unfortunately, Islamaphobia remains healthy and alive and well,” said Shakeel Syed, head of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California. “This mosque has always been peaceful.”
