Every year, collectors of Bauer Pottery eagerly await the Atwater Village studio’s December sale of factory seconds. Beginning today, fans won’t have to wait until the holidays, as the newly remodeled showroom will open to the public the first weekend of every month. A variety of seconds -- dinnerware, candlesticks, pitchers and other brightly colored trademark designs with minor defects or uneven glazing -- will be marked down as much as 60%. A supportive pedigree

The Aeron chair has long ruled as an office status symbol, a throne for key-stroking drones and corporate captains. This week its manufacturer, Herman Miller, launches Embody, created by Jeff Weber and the late Bill Stumpf, the latter of whom co-created the Aeron. Tapered at the shoulders to allow greater ease of movement, Embody is built without a shell, providing ergonomic support through an exposed skeleton with dozens of flexors that adjust to the user’s movement. Coverups shine light on old shades

Dented or dingy lampshades don’t have to be tossed, says Shelly Dick, co-creator of a line of lighting slipcovers called Frockz. Instead of Grandma’s old dust protectors -- the ones that are like clear plastic shower caps -- these slinky spandex prints look like something Molly Shannon might wear as a tube skirt on “Kath & Kim.” Form-fitting Frockz designs can camouflage flaws in more than two dozen patterns, including Mod, Asian and jungle.
