The Times’ excellent article discusses what longtime community activists already know -- that lawyers and lobbyists have behind-the-scenes access to elected and appointed officials, unlike the public.
It’s one of the reasons that, by the time a community understands the impact of any proposed large-scale development, people must swim against the stream to learn their council member’s position on the project.
Fortunately, the tide is turning as more learn how to fight City Hall with their own attorneys and insiders.
