So much for the notion Arizona might not have belonged in the NCAA tournament.

Nic Wise scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half, Chase Budinger had 20 and the 12th-seeded Wildcats -- one of the last teams to make it into the field of 65 -- knocked off fifth-seeded Utah, 84-71, Friday night in the first round of the Midwest Regional at Miami.

Jordan Hill had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Arizona (20-13), which has been in the NCAAs 25 years in a row but hadn’t reached the second round since 2006.

Tyler Kepkay scored 19 points for Utah (24-10), which made only eight of 32 from three-point range and matched a season-high with 20 turnovers.

No. 13 Cleveland State 84, No. 4 Wake Forest 69 -- The Vikings, who upset Bob Knight’s Indiana team in the first round 23 years ago, shocked the Deamon Deacons at Miami.

Norris Cole scored 22 points for Cleveland State (26-10), which committed only six turnovers to 18 for Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons (24-7) lost in their first tournament game since 2005.

No. 11 Dayton 68, No. 6 West Virginia 60 -- Chris Wright scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Flyers over Bob Huggins’ Mountaineers in the first round at Minneapolis.

Dayton (27-7) had been 1-13 against the Mountaineers coach, dating to Huggins’ days on the sideline for Cincinnati.

West Virginia (23-12) had won at least two games in the NCAA tournament in each of its last four appearances.

No. 9 Siena 74, No. 8 Ohio State 72 (2OT) -- Ronald Moore made a three-pointer with 3.9 seconds left in the second overtime -- from the identical spot he made one at the end of the first OT -- as the Saints (27-7) knocked out the Buckeyes at Dayton, Ohio.

Evan Turner missed a leaner from 15 feet that would have forced a third OT for the Buckeyes (22-11), who blew an 11-point lead in the second half of regulation.

No. 3 Kansas 84, No. 14 North Dakota State 74 -- Sherron Collins scored a season-high 32 points and went basket for basket with NDSU star Ben Woodside, and Cole Aldrich had 23 points to help the defending NCAA champions hold off the Bison at Minneapolis.

Woodside played all 40 minutes and scored 37 points, and fellow senior Brett Winkelman tirelessly contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds to keep the Jayhawks (26-7) from getting comfortable until the final minutes.

The Bison (27-7) was in its first season of eligibility for the NCAA tournament.

No. 1 Louisville 74, No. 16 Morehead State 54 -- The Cardinals (29-5) pulled away to give top-seeded teams a 100-0 record against No. 16s since the tournament expanded in 1985. The Eagles, who trailed, 35-33, at the half, finished at 21-16.

No. 2 Michigan State 77, No. 15 Robert Morris 62 -- Raymar Morgan scored 16 points and Goran Suton had 11 points and 17 rebounds for the Spartans (27-6), who will play USC in the second round at Minneapolis. Jeremy Chappell scored 11 and was the only player in double figures for Robert Morris (24-11), a commuter school from suburban Pittsburgh making its first NCAA appearance since 1992.
