Under/over? The debate rages on

Regarding “Places Underrated” in the April 19 Travel section: My two favorite underrated destinations are Mongolia and Myanmar. Both are very beautiful, the inhabitants wear national dress most of the time, and they are very different from the rest of the world. The Shwedagon pagoda complex in Yangon, Myanmar, is worth a visit on its own.

While it was an insult to me that Paris could be deemed overrated, I find it equally astonishing that Disneyland Paris made the list as an underrated gem. As far as I’m concerned, it is chaotic to list an entire city as overrated, yet an amusement park in the same city as underrated. To add insult to injury, Sacramento is listed as an underrated city. Are you kidding me? Come on . . . you can do better!

I really enjoyed the article about unsung vacation destinations. I especially want to compliment Jane Engle’s article about our favorite, Carpinteria. It truly is a gem!

What she neglected to highlight was the family-friendly tasting room of Island Brewing Co., with a patio overlooking the state park campgrounds. They serve award-winning beers, soft drinks and even offer water dishes for dogs but no food (order in for delivery or walk to the Spot and take it back to enjoy). Every place is a short walk in this friendly town (don’t forget the orchid farms and the Avocado Festival).
