American Express cutting no slack
Re: David Lazarus’ consumer column, “AmEx’s risk policies drive away customers,” April 29:
After having an American Express card for several years and paying in full and on time, my December bill got lost in the holiday mail; it was paid in full but arrived two days late at their billing office.
The bill was for $71 and AmEx added a $15.63 finance charge. Feeling this an exorbitant fee for $71, I called to ask that the fee be forgiven or lowered considerably. The phone person spoke with his supervisor and was told that it was what it was. I canceled my card; they didn’t care.
By contrast my other two credit companies continue to treat me well and go to bat for me if there are problems.
