Another potential buyer has surfaced for the Phoenix Coyotes, one that would keep the team in Glendale, Ariz.

An attorney for Las Vegas-based businessman John Breslow, who owns 3% of the Coyotes, said Wednesday that Breslow told the NHL he has formed a group interested in submitting a bid for the team.

Attorney Scott Cohen declined to comment on reports that Breslow’s group includes hockey great and Coyotes Coach Wayne Gretzky.

Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the team earlier this month, a move that caught the NHL by surprise.

The only bid so far for the team is a $212.5-million offer from Canadian Jim Balsillie, contingent on moving the team to Hamilton, Canada.

The Minnesota Wild is evaluating its general manager opening and Paul McGuire is one of the finalists.

But McGuire’s candidacy essentially comes from the nontraditional category.

McGuire hasn’t been part of an NHL team for 12 years, instead breaking down the game for Canada sports network TSN and for U.S. viewers on NBC.

He has played professionally in Europe, coached at the college level, and served in the NHL as a scout, assistant coach, assistant general manager and head coach.

“When you’ve done media as long as I have, you have a chance to be exposed to a lot of different markets and ideologies as far as how to build a program,” McGuire said.

“You’ve also seen the failures and what’s gone wrong. It’s a chance to evaluate with an unbiased eye what the positives and what the detriments are to building a team. That’s what lured me.”
