Former state Assemblyman Paul Koretz widened his lead Friday in the race to replace Councilman Jack Weiss, pulling ahead of neighborhood council member David T. Vahedi by 551 votes.
The tally, released Friday by county election officials, gave Koretz 50.8% of the vote, compared with 49.2% for Vahedi.
County officials will continue counting the remaining ballots next week, with the next update expected Tuesday. The City Council district stretches from the Westside to Encino.
