The article “These violinists are second to none,” begins, “Everyone can’t be in the first section.” I certainly hope that what you meant to say is “Not everyone can be in the first section,” because if everyone cannot be there, it’s a nonexistent section.

Our hats are off to you for focusing on the hard-working, talented musicians in the second violin section. But you get failing grades in freshman logic with your lead line. But then, maybe every editor on your staff no longer has that sense of logic required to write a clear sentence.

Because if it’s true that every person can not be in the first violin section, I’ve just lost my job.
