UCLA REPORT / NOTES : Senior fullback Moline runs with opportunity

Fullback Chane Moline seems to be making the most of his last few college games.

Moline scored on runs of two, seven and 16 yards -- his only carries -- in UCLA’s 43-7 victory over Washington State, becoming the first Bruin to have three touchdowns runs since Maurice Drew in 2005.

“I have only two, maybe three games left in a UCLA jersey,” Moline said. “I’m happy get the opportunities.”

Moline scored on a one-yard run against Washington the previous week, as the Bruins turned to him to handle short-yardage situations.

“It’s just a case where he is so reliable,” Coach Rick Neuheisel said. “We’re going to keep working him.”

Moline also caught a career-high seven passes for 60 yards. Quarterback Kevin Prince constantly found him open under the Washington State zone.

“He’s just getting more opportunities,” Prince said. “He has always had the ability. He’s a great pass catcher who is tough to bring down.”

Slide or glide?

Prince suffered a concussion against Washington when he failed to slide at the end of a scramble. He kept waiting for the opportunity to show he learned his lesson. It never came.

Prince took off on a third-down play in the second quarter and just kept running as linebacker Myron Beck stayed in pass coverage on Terrence Austin. Prince ran for a 68-yard touchdown.

“I told myself to slide when he turns around,” Prince said. “He never turned around.”

Prince credited Austin with “a great block,” even though Austin was running ahead of Beck.

“Terrence saw what was going on,” Prince said. “He got the guy out of the way, didn’t he?”

Weather or not

The game-time temperature was 32 degrees, but that didn’t bother the Bruins. Neuheisel’s cold-weather preparation included holding Friday night’s team meeting outside in a snow storm.

“I was amazed how many of our guys had never been in snow before,” Neuheisel said. “It gave us the right mind-set.”

Still, it was cold.

“I never have played in a game that was so cold,” linebacker Reggie Carter said. “I was talking to fans a little bit near the end of the game. I told them the game was clearly over. I said, ‘If I had the choice to go home right now, I would, so why are you still sitting here? Go home.’ ”

Quick hits

Tailback Christian Ramirez did not travel with the team. . . . Kai Forbath’s two field goals gave him 24, fourth on the Bruins single-season list. It also gave him 271 points, fifth in Bruins history. . . . Rahim Moore made his ninth interception, tying for second on UCLA’s single-season list.
