Thank you for the great article and excellent job in recognizing Pili Montilla. [“Planet Spanglish,” Oct. 4]

One of the wonderful things about living in Los Angeles is the fusion of our many cultures. Pili’s beautiful and passionate personality is so refreshing in today’s stale stereotypes traditionally portrayed in the media. We are very lucky to have her all the way from the other side of the country.

Now only if there was a good Puerto Rican restaurant near me, then L.A. would be perfect.

Yvonne Villarreal quotes Yasmin Deliz: “We’re keeping our culture alive.”

What is she talking about? The “Latino culture” or the Spanglish or however you want to call it, is the emerging dominant culture of the United States. The gigantic tidal wave of Hispanic immigration will totally transform the traditional Anglo Saxon, Northern European culture which was the historic core of this country.

The Hispanic population will be shown by the 2010 census to be 60 million people, 19% of the population, just about 1 in 5 American residents. The Latino birth rate is three times the white birth rate. Keeping their culture alive? How do you think white people feel? We are the ones headed for extinction.
