Rasheed Wallace thinks Celtics can break Bulls’ record

Share

Rasheed Wallace, new member of the Boston Celtics, thinks his team can make a run at the supposedly unbreakable record set by the Chicago Bulls in 1995-96: a 72-win season.

“Oh definitely,” Wallace told the Sporting News. “Definitely, playing with those three other guys [Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen], also combining that with the guys we have on the bench, I think we definitely can. Me personally, I think we can get that Bulls record. You know we have the talent for it. We have the will for it and . . . I think we have the defense for it.”

Wallace was asked whether he wanted the reporter to “use that?”

“You can. Because, honestly, I really do feel that. That was a good team. They had some HOFs [Hall of Famers] on there, but we have a few on this team, too.”

Trivia time

Which NBA team holds the record for most defeats in a regular season?

Short end of the deal

David Letterman was musing the other night about the possibility of a Dodgers-Yankees World Series.

“So now if the Yankees and the Dodgers meet,” he said, “the mayors of the two cities have one of those friendly wagers. If New York City wins, from California, we get a crate of avocados! If L.A. wins, we send them a litter of rats.”

Miracles in our time

Potential “Jeopardy” topic: The Berlin Wall being torn down, the Soviet Union crumbling, the United States electing an African American president and the Angels winning the 2002 World Series.

The question: What are amazing things that happened since the Dodgers last appeared in a World Series?

A replacements fan

While the NBA and its referees remain stalemated in contract talks, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he’s in no hurry for the league’s regular referees to hurry back to work.

“I hope they get a deal done, but I’m fine with the ones we have,” Cuban told CBSSports.com. “I actually like these referees better.”

And finally

From Brad Dickson of the Omaha World-Herald: “On the cover of his new book, Chad Ochocinco is making obscene gestures with both hands. I’m going to guess this is not part of the ‘Chicken Soup’ series.”
