‘My One and Only’

This whimsical period piece, set in the ‘50s, suits actress Renee Zellweger well, from the blond bob to the pencil skirts and pearls. A dalliance discovered sends this glamorous New York City society moll on a cross-country trip with her two teenage sons as she searches for a suitable replacement for that now vacant father-husband role. It’s a bittersweet story of discovery for Zellweger, who finds her seductive powers aren’t quite what they used to be and besides, the times are changing. Particularly well drawn is the relationship between Zellweger and her 15-year-old, George, which is loosely based on the memories of actor George Hamilton of his mother and his pre-Hollywood days. With a baby blue Caddy for wheels, jazzy blues on the radio and grit and moxie to guide them, it’s definitely worth going along for the ride.
