Chargers’ LaDainian Tomlinson out again this week against Miami

LaDainian Tomlinson has been ruled out of the San Diego Chargers’ home game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, the second straight game he will miss because of a sprained right ankle.

Tomlinson was hurt in a season-opening win at Oakland and missed last Sunday’s home-opening loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

“I don’t have a comment about it. It is what it is,” said Tomlinson, who added that he thinks it’s getting better.

After going eight regular seasons without missing a game because of injury, Tomlinson will have missed three of the Chargers’ last four games. The first came in January when a groin injury kept him from playing in the Chargers’ playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Until then, the only time he missed a start was the regular-season finale in 2004, when then-coach Marty Schottenheimer rested him and some other key veterans to keep them fresh for the playoffs.

Browns scuffle

After a spirited practice, the Cleveland Browns were still in a playful mood, so they decided to pull a prank on one of their rookies.

Coye Francies didn’t care for the joke.

The first-year cornerback, incensed over being soaked with water by some of his teammates, threw a bucket of ice and at least one errant punch during a skirmish in the Browns’ locker room Friday.

As the Browns returned from practice, a dripping-wet Francies stormed into the locker room lugging a Gatorade bucket full of ice. Before he could be stopped, Francies tossed the ice on cornerback Brandon McDonald, hitting him with cubes that covered the floor.

At that point, it was not clear whether Francies was playing along and messing with McDonald.

Then, his mood, and the vibe in the room, turned serious.

Francies flung some more ice in the direction of safety Mike Adams before heading toward safety Abram Elam’s corner cubicle. With the bucket on the floor, Francies then swung his arms at Elam, who deflected the blows. Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers then stepped in and grabbed Francies by the back of the shirt and escorted him out a side door as other players came to help.

Hasselbeck doubtful

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck missed a third consecutive practice day because of a broken rib, so the Seahawks expect backup Seneca Wallace to start for the three-time Pro Bowl passer on Sunday against Chicago.

“It is extremely unlikely Matt will play,” Coach Jim Mora said after practice, when the team listed him as doubtful.

Tuck questionable

Pro Bowl defensive end Justin Tuck is questionable for the New York Giants’ game Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tuck hurt his left shoulder last Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys when tripped by tackle Flozell Adams. He has not practiced all week and Coach Tom Coughlin said Friday he was 50-50 for the game at Tampa.

Etc.

New England Patriots receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker were listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons after they missed practice Friday. . . . Browns running back Jamal Lewis is still nursing an injured hamstring, and probably will miss Sunday’s game at Baltimore. . . . Cowboys running back Marion Barber again was limited in practice because of a left thigh injury. . . . Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown was fined $10,000 by the league for wearing a Halloween mask during pregame introductions last Sunday.
