Dodgers’ Manny Ramirez returns to L.A.

When the Dodgers rushed onto the field to celebrate their 4-3, 13-inning victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday, Manny Ramirez wasn’t there. He wasn’t even in the ballpark.

Ramirez, who was put on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a strained right calf, had returned to Los Angeles.

The main reason was that Ramirez has a Monday appointment scheduled with team physician Neal ElAttrache, who will review the results of the MRI exam Ramirez had Friday.

Ramirez is scheduled to take part in hitting drills and receive treatment at Dodger Stadium every day while the Dodgers are on the road.

Manager Joe Torre said he spoke to General Manager Ned Colletti and they decided there was no benefit in having Ramirez stay with the club, particularly with the Dodgers heading to New York on the next leg of the trip.

“It would’ve been a little bit of a circus,” Torre said.

Padilla in limbo

Put on the 15-day disabled list, Vicente Padilla had more questions than he had answers.

Padilla said an X-ray Saturday showed nothing wrong with his forearm and that he had no idea why he started feeling pain during his previous start.

Padilla said he started to feel discomfort when pitching in Cincinnati on Thursday. The pain first appeared in the fifth inning and worsened as he waited for the Dodgers to finish hitting in the sixth.

He is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Monday.

Padilla had soreness in his forearm during spring training, but didn’t think it was related to his current problem.

“That was here,” Padilla said, pointing to the outer part of his forearm. “This is here,” he said, pointing to the inner part.

Short hops

Casey Blake said his day off Friday might have helped him hit two home runs Saturday. “I had a couple of rough games,” he said. “Sometimes, it’s good to get out of there. I’d like to think that that helped.” . . . Closer Jonathan Broxton pitched for the first time in six days. He gave up an unearned run in 1 1/3 innings that forced extra innings.
