The only performer to win lead actress (1992’s “Howards End”) and adapted screenplay (1995’s “Sense and Sensibility”) Academy Awards, Thompson appeared with first husband Kenneth Branagh in the 1987 miniseries “Fortunes of War” and collaborated with him several times after that (“Henry VI,” “Dead Again”). She earned Oscar nominations for her performances in “Remains of the Day,” “In the Name of the Father” and “Sense and Sensibility.” She’s played the eccentric teacher Sybil Trelawney in the “Harry Potter” films and played three roles in the 2003 HBO miniseries “Angels in America” — Nurse Emily, a homeless woman and the Angel of America.
