Web Buzz: Nationalparkstraveler.com provides an abundance of news

The excitement surrounding Ken Burns’ PBS-TV series “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea” may have come and gone, but Nationalparkstraveler.com keeps the spirit alive.

What’s hot: The sheer volume of content will delight park enthusiasts. To find such items as news that only locals might care about and first-person features from writers such as Jane Schneider (who was stalking grizzly bears in Yellowstone), it’s best to dig right in and follow the trail of a topic that speaks to you. If you get lost, use the “Search” tab in the top navigation bar to quickly find a subject. I particularly liked the “Reader Participation Day” posts under “Recent Comments,” which ignited discussion around questions such as: “What is the greatest threat to our national parks?” The website, founded in 2005 by Kurt Repanshek, is maintained by National Park Advocates Inc. in Park City, Utah.

What’s not: Getting through the alphabetical menu under “Browse Content by Topic” is a chore because you can’t jump to a specific letter in the lineup.
