Michelle Obama and a tempest in a cereal bowl? Maybe

Michelle Obama knows her nutritional stuff. She’s a huge player in the battle against childhood obesity who scored a major victory when her husband signed a child nutrition law earlier this month. And yet…

The Fooducate blog took issue with the first lady Wednesday over her assessment of a particular breakfast cereal. Here’s how it begins:

“Last week, First Lady Michelle Obama held a holiday reception with children, parents and staff at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Chit-chatting with the kids, the subject of healthy breakfast came up. From the transcript:

Child: What’s your favorite thing to eat for breakfast on Christmas morning?
Mrs. Obama: Oh, wow, that’s a good question.
Child: I usually eat Honey Nut Cheerios. (Laughter.) Mrs. Obama: OK, we’re not going to do any advertisements. (Laughter.) But that is a healthy breakfast, it is.”

Fooducate begs to differ. Check out the rest of the post to find out why. And here’s the nutritional facts for Honey Nut Cheerios.
