Ryan Villopoto wins AMA Supercross in Anaheim

Ryan Villopoto won the Monster Energy AMA Supercross race at Angel Stadium in front of 34,227 on Saturday night.

It was his second win of the season.

Josh Hill finished second and moved into a first-place tie with Ryan Dungey in the AMA Supercross standings.

Dungey, the top qualifier and leader in the AMA Supercross standings for the last five weeks, was fourth.

Dungey has won two races in the AMA Supercross season. He won consecutive races, the first at Chase Field in Arizona and then at Angel Stadium. Hill has posted five straight podium finishes, including four runner-ups in a row.

Davi Millsaps, who won the AMA Supercross race at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego on Feb. 6, qualified fifth. Villopoto, the winner at San Francisco two weeks ago, qualified sixth.

James Stewart, reigning AMA Supercross champion and winner of the opening-night race at Angel Stadium, missed his third race in a row. He is recovering from surgery on a broken hand.

Trey Canard won the AMA Supercross Lite-West race, his second of the season. He won the race at San Francisco two weeks ago and has four podium finishes in six races.

Jake Weimer, the top qualifier and leader in the AMA Supercross Lites-West standings, crashed on Lap 3 and stalled his bike. He was eighth, his worst finish of the season.

He has won four races, including three in a row to start the season. He won the previous two races at Angel Stadium.

Two riders had to be carried off the course on stretchers after crashing during the heat races. Jake Anstett crashed in the second AMA Supercross heat race, which was won by Hill.

The second AMA Supercross Lites-West heat race was red-flagged on Lap 3 when Max Antsie crashed and stopped the race. Trey Canard was in the lead at the time. The race was restarted from Lap 1 after Antsie was safely carried off the course.

Jake Weimer, leader in the AMA Supercross Lites - West standings, won the heat race, leading all six laps after the restart. Canard was third.
