The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistanor who died at a U.S. military hospital of their injuries:

Jesse W. Ainsworth, 24, of Dayton, Texas; staff sergeant, Army. Ainsworth was killed July 10 when a roadside bomb exploded near his convoy vehicle near Walakan in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Christopher J. Antonik, 29, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; staff sergeant, Marine Corps. Antonik was killed July 11 while supporting combat operations in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Corps Special Operations Command at Camp Pendleton.

Robert W. Crow, 42, of Kansas City, Mo.; specialist, Army National Guard. Crow was killed July 10 when his armored vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southeast Afghanistan’s Paktika province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 203rd Engineer Battalion in Joplin, Mo.

Joseph W. Dimock II, 21, of Wildwood, Ill.; specialist, Army. Dimock was killed July 10 in a noncombat-related explosion during an inventory of an ammunition holding facility in Salerno in eastern Afghanistan’s Khowst province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.

Donald R. Edgerton, 33, of Murphy, N.C.; sergeant, Army. Edgerton was killed July 10 when a roadside bomb exploded near him while he was on foot patrol near Char Dara in northeast Afghanistan’s Kunduz province, which borders Tajikistan. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Zachary M. Fisher, 24, of Ballwin, Mo.; sergeant, Army. Fisher was among four soldiers killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in southern Afghanistan’s Zabol province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade (Combat) at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Nathaniel D. Garvin, 20, of Radcliff, Ky.; specialist, Army. Garvin died of noncombat-related injuries Monday at Forward Operating Base Frontenac in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 96th Aviation Support Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Christopher S. Goeke, 23, of Apple Valley, Minn.; first lieutenant, Army. Goeke was among three soldiers killed Tuesday when an insurgent rammed his explosives-filled car into the main gate of the police compound in Kandahar City, Afghanistan, while other militants opened fire with automatic rifles and rocket launchers. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Matthew J. Johnson, 21, of Maplewood, Minn.; specialist, Army. Johnson was among four soldiers killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in southern Afghanistan’s Zabol province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade (Combat) at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Brandon M. King, 23, of Tallahassee, Fla.; private, Army. King was killed Wednesday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire at Combat Outpost Nolen in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Shaun M. Mittler, 32, of Austin, Texas; staff sergeant, Army. Mittler was killed July 10 when his unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Christopher J. Moon, 20, of Tucson; specialist, Army. Moon died Tuesday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries suffered July 6 when a roadside bomb exploded near him while he was on foot patrol in Arghandab in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Carlos J. Negron, 40, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; specialist, Army. Negron died July 10 in Asadabad, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered earlier when his unit was attacked with rifle and small-arms fire in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 426th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Daniel G. Raney, 21, of Pleasant View, Tenn.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Raney was killed July 9 while supporting combat operations in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Tyler A. Roads, 20, of Burney, Calif.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Roads was killed July 10 while supporting combat operations in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Anthony W. Simmons, 25, of Tallahassee, Fla.; private first class, Army. Simmons was killed July 8 in a mortar attack on his unit in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Chase Stanley, 21, of Napa, Calif.; specialist, Army. Stanley was among four soldiers killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in southern Afghanistan’s Zabol province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade (Combat) at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Christopher T. Stout, 34, of Worthville, Ky.; staff sergeant, Army. Stout was among three soldiers killed Tuesday when an insurgent rammed his explosives-filled car into the main gate of the police compound in Kandahar City, Afghanistan, while other militants opened fire with automatic rifles and rocket launchers. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Sheldon L. Tate, 27, of Hinesville, Ga.; staff sergeant, Army. Tate was among three soldiers killed Tuesday when an insurgent rammed his explosives-filled car into the main gate of the police compound in Kandahar City, Afghanistan, while other militants opened fire with automatic rifles and rocket launchers. He was assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
