Chivas USA doesn’t help itself in 2-1 loss to FC Dallas
In its first regular-season game in three weeks, Chivas USA picked up right where it left off — with a loss.
Chivas fell, 2-1, to FC Dallas on Saturday at the Home Depot Center. The loss brings Chivas’ losing streak to six games, and places the team more firmly in last place in the Western Conference.
“I’m disappointed, upset, angry,” Chivas Coach Martin Vasquez said. “We had a good week, felt like we had the right preparation to get the result tonight.
“We need to go and play with more determination from the first minute, with more desire, with more life, to get out of this hole that we dug ourselves into.”
In this case, Chivas USA (3-9-1) had no one to blame but itself.
An own goal by Chivas defender Ante Jazic gave Dallas the lead in the 45th minute. The ball landed amid a jumble of players from a Dallas corner kick, and in the confusion bounced off Jazic before ending up in the net.
Chivas tied it in the 59th minute, when defender Mariano Trujillo sent a lofty shot toward Dallas’ goal and midfielder Osael Romero headed it in.
But Chivas wasn’t through hurting itself.
Dallas (4-2-6) added the decisive goal in the 61st minute on a David Ferreira penalty kick, which followed a foul in the box by Jazic.
“The goals we’re giving up, that’s what’s killing us, that’s what is hurting us,” Vasquez said. “Late in the first half, right after we tied up the game; it takes the momentum away, it takes us some time to shake it off.”
Dallas controlled the ball early and kept the action primarily on Chivas’ side well into the 10th minute.
Chivas got a chance in the 12th minute, however, when midfielder Jesus Padilla sent a pass to Romero in Dallas’ box. Romero could have had a clear shot, but he overran the ball.
