Jered Weaver sharp in Angels’ loss to Arizona

Arizona 4, Angels 1
AT THE PLATE
: The Angels’ only run came when
Mike Napoli
, who hit 20 home runs in each of the last two seasons, hit his third home run of the spring, a towering shot to center field in the fourth inning. “It seems like he’s picked up this year from when he was hot last year,” Manager
Mike Scioscia
said. “He’s on just about everything. He’ll be ready offensively, for sure.”
ON THE MOUND:
Jered Weaver
, who is aligned in the rotation to start opening day, looked sharp during a three-inning stint, allowing one run and three hits and striking out two in three innings. “I felt a lot better than I did my last outing,” Weaver said. “The location of my off-speed pitches was better, and I hit my spots. I’m making strides in the right direction.”
EXTRA BASES:
Hideki Matsui
continues to show a keen sense of humor. When the Japanese media was warned about scorpions at the team’s complex, the Sports Hochi published an article with a headline evoking Matsui’s nickname: “Godzilla vs. Scorpion.” Thursday, Matsui gave the writer of the piece a Scorpion flashlight.
