Angels: Week ahead

Share

Monday through Wednesday: Blue Jays at Angel Stadium

Friday through Sunday: Mariners at Seattle

The Angels could use an outfielder in his prime, and Carl Crawford would appear to be a perfect fit, assuming that he plays out this season with the Tampa Bay Rays and becomes a free agent. Of course, the perfect fit for the Angels three years ago would have been Vernon Wells, had he not signed a $126-million extension with the Toronto Blue Jays. He promptly slipped from an elite outfielder to an ordinary one, helping to ensure that Crawford can forget about a nine-figure contract this winter. But Wells is back this season, and in a big way: He was batting .300 through Friday, with a .944 on-base-plus-slugging percentage that would be a career high. After hitting 15 home runs last year, he has 11 this year.
