Kings’ Scott Parse will be out three to four months

It appears Scott Parse’s return to the Kings’ lineup has been short-lived.

The forward will undergo hip surgery next week and is expected to be out three to four months, the Kings said Tuesday.

Brad Richardson will move up to the top line alongside Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar.

Coach Terry Murray said he noticed Parse wasn’t playing up to speed in Monday’s 6-3 loss to San Jose and had kept him on the bench for the entire third period.

“I was just not seeing the kind of player I was hoping to see,” Murray said. “He was behind the play, turning pucks over, not able to battle along the boards. … To me, there was something wrong there.”

Parse, a sixth-round pick in the 2004 draft, sat out the first 11 games of the season because of the injury, and since coming back had not scored a goal until the first period in Monday’s game, when the puck deflected off his skate and into the net.

Last season he had 11 goals and 13 assists in 59 games.

Schenn to Manchester?

Brayden Schenn could be heading to Manchester of the American Hockey League after team officials indicated Tuesday they were sending him there for conditioning purposes. However, by late afternoon the move had not been made and a Kings spokesman said the team was discussing issues with the NHL related to completing the move.

Schenn has played in eight games this season and would not be eligible to return to his junior team if he appears in a 10th game. By sending him on a conditioning assignment, the Kings would have up to 14 days before they have to recall him or send him to juniors.

The 2009 first-round pick has not played since Oct. 30 and Murray said it has been difficult getting him into the lineup. Schenn was not at practice Tuesday.

“Getting to Manchester and playing seven or eight games would be very beneficial for him,” Murray said.

King to Kings

The Kings recalled forward Dwight King from Manchester to fill in for forward Alexei Ponikarovsky, who was placed on injured reserve after breaking his finger last week.

The 6-foot-3, 227-pound King is expected to play Wednesday against Columbus and will take over Ponikarovsky’s line spot alongside Michal Handzus and Wayne Simmonds.

“They should be able to make some plays,” Murray said. “I like the offensive part of King’s game when we saw him in the exhibition games.”

King, the first player in franchise history to share the same name with the team, has six goals and 11 points in 16 games with the Monarchs. He is also the first Kings player to have played for the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ ECHL affiliate. King played 20 games with the Reign at the beginning of last season.
