MTV Fall Comedy Showcase Grace Parra and Paul Wright present the MTV Fall Comedy Showcase at the Laugh Factory’s Hollywood location. The show will feature Geoff Keith, Julia Lillis, the Wait List, Peet Guercio, Jason Farone and Eric Patrick, with Ali Wong headlining. The nation’s fascination with the coupling of music and television appears to be fading — Glee’s time slot dominance notwithstanding — but whether the MTV-produced comedy show really represents the network’s attempt to diversify, the lineup speaks for itself. Teenage Fanclub The harmony-driven Scottish alt-rock quartet showcases compositions from the recent “Shadows,” the band’s 10th studio album, and the first long-player it has released in more than five years. The band’s unique approach, in which songwriting and vocal responsibilities are equally shared among its three principle members, helps create a truly democratic and creatively idiosyncratic pop rock vision. Radars to the Sky The local indie band has a pretty efficient and orthodox group of influences — Modest Mouse, the Cure and other such earnest, askew rockers. But they play the material with such vigor and skill (and an ear for perfect production flourishes on record) that they enter into a sonic space all their own. “Exit Through The Gift Shop” The street-art prankster Banksy gets punked by one of his own in the documentary project that follows the unlikely career of Thierry Guetta, an amateur photographer of the nascent guerrilla tagging scene who, on the strength of shooting some coveted archival footage, decides to dip his toes into art-making with uncomfortably hilarious and improbably successful results, causing Banksy (the doc’s producer) to question the whole scene’s validity.
