UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince out for season
UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee Saturday.
Prince, a sophomore, had been tagged as the Bruins’ starting quarterback this season, but has had pain and swelling in his knee since injuring it against Texas on Sept. 25.
During the surgery, his meniscus was cleaned up and Prince also underwent a microfracture procedure to stimulate the growth of new cartilage in the knee, according to a UCLA news release.
The loss of Prince, who threw for 384 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions in five games this season as the Bruins attempted to roll out their new “pistol” offense, leaves backup Richard Brehaut as the likely starter.
Brehaut made the second start of his UCLA career in the Bruins’ 60-13 loss against No. 1 Oregon and turned the ball over three times against the Ducks, with an intercepted pass on UCLA’s first drive and later with two fumbles that came on sacks.
On the season, Brehaut has thrown for 348 yards and two interceptions in four games.
UCLA also announced that sophomore linebacker Patrick Larimore, who dislocated his left shoulder in the first quarter of Thursday’s game at Oregon, is expected to be sidelined for about three weeks.
