Nash’ judgment upped

Don Johnson’s judgment against a production company over profits from the “Nash Bridges” television series was increased Wednesday to more than $50 million after a judge gave the actor interest on the $23.2-million award he obtained from a jury in July.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael L. Stern said he was giving the actor 10% annual interest dating back to 1998, when he signed his contract with Rysher Entertainment.

The interest amounts to $28 million, said Johnson’s lawyer, Mark Holsher.

Rysher lawyer Bart H. Williams declined to comment on the ruling but reiterated his previous statement that there will be appeals.

‘Jersey Shore’ star pleads guilty

Calling her “a Lindsay Lohan wannabe,” a judge fined “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi $500 Wednesday and ordered her to perform community service after she pleaded guilty to disturbing others on a New Jersey beach in July.

Her lawyer said that Polizzi was under the influence of alcohol when she stumbled around the beach in Seaside Heights, using loud language that disturbed other beachgoers.

Polizzi apologized to police and anyone else she bothered, claiming her behavior was not scripted as part of the show, even though cameras were rolling.

Municipal Court Judge Damian G. Murray gave her credit for one day of community service that she spent caring for abused and neglected animals at a zoo.

Zhang Ziyi to star in ‘Mulan’

The folk story of a young woman in ancient China who replaces her father in battle will get its second live-action adaptation in recent years — this time in English and starring Zhang Ziyi.

The legend of Mulan was made famous worldwide by the 1998 Disney animated film. Hong Kong director Jingle Ma shot a Chinese-language version that was released last year. Now “Speed” director Jan de Bont is taking on an English adaptation featuring “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” star Zhang.

Latin Grammys name nominees

Top nods for the Latin Grammy Awards went to some familiar names Wednesday, including Juan Luis Guerra, Alejandro Sanz and Oscar winner Jorge Drexler, who each received four nominations. The Mexican trio Camila also fared well, with three nominations, and founder and producer Mario Domm also earned a spot for co-writing the band’s hit “Mientes” with Monica Velez.

The album of the year category showed the international flavor of Latin pop: nominees include “Y.,” by the Spanish singer-songwriter Bebe; Camila’s “Dejarte de Amar”; Guerra’s “A Son de Guerra”; “Paraiso Express” by Sanz; and “Cardio” by the veteran globetrotter Miguel Bose.

Song of the year nominees include names familiar to fans both within and beyond the Latin music world. Enrique Iglesias’ “Cuando Me Enamoro,” which features guest Guerra, vies with “Desde Cuando” by Sanz; “Las Calles” by Ruben Blades; Camila’s “Mientes”; and “Una Canción Me Trajo Hasta Aqui” by Drexler.

The Latin Grammy Awards will take place Nov. 11 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The ceremony will be broadcast on the Univision network.

An award show to rival Emmys?

The Emmys aren’t the only big TV-honors game anymore.

The Paley Center for Media announced plans Wednesday for an award show that will premiere in May 2012 in New York. It was developed with the help of TV, advertising and new-media executives.

The center said the new awards will take a “fresh and distinctive approach” that involves the public in the selection process and reaches beyond TV by celebrating video across all platforms — an apparent reference to online and mobile distribution.

Details on award categories, nominations and the voting process are under discussion, Paley Center President Pat Mitchell said. A deal for televising the event has not been made yet.
