Despite shuttle launch postponement, Obama visiting Cape Canaveral

President Obama is going ahead with his planned visit to Cape Canaveral despite the postponement of the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour.

While Obama toured storm-ravaged Alabama, NASA officials scrubbed Friday’s planned launch because of a last-minute technical issue. The entire first family planned to see the launch, along with Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D), whose husband is Endeavour’s commander.

At the Kennedy Space Center, the first family was also scheduled to be led on a tour of the Orbiter Processing Facility by astronaut Janet Kavandi, a three-flight veteran who has logged 33 days in space.

Later Friday, Obama travels to Miami to deliver the commencement address at Miami Dade College.

It’s not yet known whether Obama would plan to return to Florida for a rescheduled Endeavour launch.
