Honolulu deal: Rooms under $100 at Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki

If you’re thinking about Hawaii for the winter, you can keep the cost low with Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki in Honolulu. The hotel’s winter sale takes half off room rates with prices that start at $89 per night.

The deal: The low rate is part of a bigger winter sale on nearly 20 condo and hotel properties on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Molokai and Kauai that are part of Castle Resorts & Hotels. So check out the company’s sale page for more deals on on Oahu and other islands.

The cheapest rooms in the sale are at the 450-room, 19-floor Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki, which is known for being a basic, bargain place to stay. Rooms start at $89 plus tax per night.

When: The offer is good through March 31, based on availability.

Tested: I went online and looked for a room from Feb. 11 to 15. I found a standard room for $95 per night that comes with either two twin beds or one queen. (This room usually goes for $190 per night, according to the website.) Add $5 per night to get a city view room or $20 per night to get a studio with kitchenette. (Prices don’t include tax.) That’s a pretty sweet deal. Now all you have to do is find a cheap airfare and inexpensive places to eat.

Note: Despite having “ocean resort” in its name, the hotel is not directly on the ocean. But Waikiki Beach is a short walk away; the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park are a little farther away.
