Las Vegas: Sneak peek at Palazzo’s giant Chinese New Year’s rabbit
The Chinese New Year-- the Year of the Rabbit-- begins Feb. 3, and a resort on the Las Vegas Strip is getting an early start on the celebrations -- in a big way.
On Thursday, a giant figure of a rabbit will make its debut as the centerpiece of the Palazzo‘s atrium. The rabbit, which stands 16 feet tall and weighs roughly 1,000 pounds, took four months to build. Its acrylic-fur paws and tail, as well as its glass eyes, all move.
The Palazzo is a popular destination for Asian visitors, especially during Chinese New Year. Each year, a ceremonial dragon dance winds it way through the property on the first day of the new year. This year it will step off at 3 p.m. Feb. 3.
People born in prior Years of the Rabbit may want to consider placing sizable wagers in Sin City because, according to the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco, they are “often financially lucky.”
The special decorations at the Palazzo will be on display through Feb. 28.
