Martin Hanzal faces possible suspension for hit on Brown [Video]

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- In the no-surprise category ... Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal will be having a hearing Wednesday regarding his hit on the Kings’ Dustin Brown in Game 2 of their Stanley Cup playoff series.

Hanzal could be suspended for his actions, which resulted in a five-minute major for boarding and automatic game misconduct.

The incident happened at 11:01 of the third period. Brown was shook up but did not miss any action. The Kings won Game 2, 4-0, and lead the series two games to none.

Kings left wing Dustin Penner criticized the hit, and an earlier one by Shane Doan on the Kings’ Trevor Lewis, telling The Times’ Helene Elliott: “”Cheap. Indicative of the score. They were frustrated and they’re both reckless hits.”

Hanzal had been operating on the edge, and took an unnecessary slashing penalty in Game 1. He took responsibility the day after that game at practice: “That was really stupid from me, I kind of slashed him from behind. That was unacceptable.”

And now he possibly could be banished from the rest of the series.
