2014 Corvette Stingray power ratings: It’s as brawny as expected

Months after the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray broke cover at the Detroit Auto Show, Chevrolet has officially confirmed just how powerful a car it will be.

The automaker announced Tuesday that the base car will officially have 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful base Corvette it’s ever offered. Add on the optional performance exhaust and those figures climb to 460 and 465, respectively.

This seventh-generation icon is powered by a 6.2-liter direct-injected V-8. It also features cylinder deactivation for greater fuel economy, which is expected to be 26 mpg on the highway.

Power flows to the rear wheels via either a seven-speed manual transmission with automatic rev-matching, or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Much of the car’s power will be available early, with 316 pound-feet of torque coming on at just 1,000 rpm. This helps keep the acceleration from zero to 60 mph below four seconds.

The Stingray Coupe will go on sale this fall and will start at $51,995, including destination. Later in the year, the Stingray Convertible will arrive, with a starting price of $56,995.
