Land Rover to debut Range Rover Sport at New York Auto Show
While the full-size Range Rover may be the unofficial minivan of Beverly Hills, maker Land Rover says the smaller Range Rover Sport is the darling of New York.
Seeking to reinforce the Big Apple’s love, Land Rover announced Monday the all-new Sport would debut at the N.Y. International Auto Show later in March.
The Range Rover Sport will be the second generation of the midsize SUV from Land Rover. It follows the Range Rover and the compact Evoque to market and will likely feature many of its sibling’s design characteristics.
Details on the Range Rover Sport remain thin, but expect it to go through a similar weight-saving regimen as the Range Rover, which shed a claimed 700 pounds versus its predecessor.
While that model retains many of the off-road chops the Land Rover brand is known for, this new Sport model appears to be more oriented for the pavement. In a statement announcing the N.Y. debut, Land Rover said the Sport would be the company’s “fastest, most responsive and most agile vehicle to date.”
Full details will be made available on March 26, the company said.
The Range Rover Sport joins other vehicles making their world debuts at the N.Y. show including Jeep’s all-new Cherokee crossover SUV, and Cadillac’s midsize CTS sedan. Stay tuned to Highway 1 for full coverage of the press days, which run March 26 and 27.
