Porsche announces Panamera GTS

Share

Not content with introducing to North American audiences a complete revision of one of the most iconic sports cars of all time, Porsche used the L.A. Auto Show to unveil a beast of quite a different nature. Yet ostensibly, the company sees it in a similar light as the new 991.

It’s the Panamera GTS.

GTS is a moniker the automaker has used as a designation of sport-tuned characteristics paired with a naturally aspirated engine. It was last seen on the final iteration of the departed 997, but also used on an earlier version of the company’s Cayenne SUV.

(Go way back into Porsche lore and you’ll find that the Porsche GTS was also a street-legal variant of a race car made in 1964 and 1965, but let’s not tell this new Panamera GTS about that, lest it suffer an identity crisis.)

360° PANORAMA: L.A. Auto Show

This newest GTS adds 30 horsepower to the Panamera S’ 400 for a total of, yes, 430 from the same 4.8-liter V-8. Torque rises from 369 to 384. Power is fed to all four wheels via Porsche’s seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters.

The company lowered the car 10 millimeters and added larger front brake rotors than are on the Panamera S and 4S. Porsche says this Panamera will do 0 to 60 in less than 4.3 seconds, half a second faster than the Panamera 4S.

In addition to the bump in power, the GTS sees a few aesthetic modifications. Black trim covers many exterior pieces and the sport exhaust system has matte black tailpipes. The optional Carmine Red paint you see here is another option.

Inside, the GTS gets sport seats and a cabin trimmed in Alcantara, including the steering wheel.

Updated:The Panamera GTS will be priced at a smidge under $111,000 and will go on sale next spring.
