Amazon will be in Santa Monica this morning to host a secretive media event, and we’ll be there live tweeting and blogging the news.
Two weeks ago, the e-commerce giant sent out an invitation that contained few details on what exactly it would announce.
Speculation has been rampant that Amazon will release a sequel to its Kindle Fire 7-inch tablet or update its line of Kindle e-readers -- a smart move if rival Apple is indeed planning to launch its own mini iPad soon.
But others have guessed that Amazon -- which bought a 3-D mapping start-up this summer and hired a former Microsoft phone executive -- might debut its own smartphone.
Amazon’s event starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Barker Hangar, but we’ll start tweeting here a couple of hours before.
