IPhone 5s begin popping up at astronomical prices on EBay

They don’t even have the iPhone 5 in their hands yet, but some people have already listed the highly coveted device for sale on EBay at astronomical prices.

Some iPhone 5 sellers are asking for insane amounts. One 64-gigabyte model was listed for $9,901. It had more than 30 bids Tuesday. Apple is selling the model for $399 with a two-year contract.

Typical prices are a bit more modest, although still a lot higher than retail. A white 16-gigabyte model sold for $900, which is $250 more than its retail price but $700 more than its price on a two-year contract.

One person was selling a 64-gigabyte model for $1,375, while another has already received 28 bids for two 16-gigabyte models, and the highest was $1,350.

Others, though, aren’t bothering with auctions and instead are simply listing their devices at Buy It Now prices. One person is selling two 16-gigabyte iPhone 5s for $2,500 total. Another seller, meanwhile, has listed two 64-gigabyte iPhone 5s for $3,200.

At least they’re offering free shipping.

Many of those purchasing the iPhone 5s on EBay may be from a country where the phone won’t soon be available. Apple began taking pre-orders for U.S. customers last Friday and will begin selling them at retail stories this Friday.
