Nationwide fuel prices tick up; California stays over $4 a gallon
Nationwide fuel prices are continuing to tick up slightly, rising to $3.828 Monday from $3.827 a week ago for a tank of regular gas.
A month ago, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.685; a year ago the price was $3.66, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge. The measure draws data from credit-card receipts from more than 100,000 U.S. retail outlets.
In California, drivers are still spending more than $4 a gallon. Statewide, a gallon of regular cost $4.167, up from $4.164 a week ago and $4.044 a month earlier.
The San Luis Obispo-Atascadero-Paso Robles region has the highest gasoline prices in the state, with a gallon of regular clocking in at $4.25, down slightly from $4.257 a week ago. San Francisco is close behind with $4.245, up from $4.238 a week earlier.
Fuel also costs more in the Los Angeles-Long Beach market, where the average price of regular is now $4.177 a gallon. In San Diego, it’s $4.151, and in Orange County it’s $4.156.
But the high prices won’t keep Americans from splurging more and more on new cars and other big-ticket purchases, according to a recent report from IBISWorld.
