Songwriter and arranger Alexander, who died this year at 100, came to fame as a big band leader working with many notable singers including Dean Martin and Ella Fitzgerald.

Alexander is credited with helping develop the Swing Era. His 1930s arrangement of “A-Tisket, A-Tasket,” sung by Fitzgerald, became his signature song. (He was going by Al Feldman at that time.) A film noir composer, Alexander he also worked in television on such shows as “The Brady Bunch,” “I Dream of Jeannie” and “Bewitched.”
