Apple to preview new TV operating system at conference, report says

A new report says Apple will demonstrate a new TV operating system next month at its Worldwide Developers Conference.

The TV OS will be new and include more features than the software running on the current Apple TV, according to the report by BGR published Wednesday.

Though the report says the new OS is definitely what will be used for the long-rumored Apple HDTV, BGR says its “trusted source” does not believe Apple will introduce the actual TV at the event. However, it also did not rule out the possibility.

The report focuses mostly on a feature the OS, which is an API that would allow consumers to control their entire home theater setup through the new Apple TV OS.

In a rare public interview Tuesday night, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said the company is intensely interested in the TV market.

“We are going to keep pulling the string and see where this takes us,” he said, according to All Things D.

When asked specifically about a TV set, Cook declined to comment.
