Nokia teases new Lumia smartphone in magazine ad

Share

Nokia is set to announce a new smartphone next week, but it’s already begun teasing the device in magazine and alleged billboard advertisements.

Last month, the Finnish phone maker sent out invitations for a May 14 event in London where it promised to reveal “what’s next” for the company. That set off speculation about what the company might reveal, and many guessed it could be the Lumia 928, a version of its flagship smartphone built for Verizon that could feature one of the most advanced cameras available on smartphones.

And now, it seems those users might be right.

An ad for what it says is “the newest Lumia” appears in the latest issue of Vanity Fair. The ad doesn’t reveal too much about the device, but it shows a black smartphone in camera mode taking a high-quality picture. The ad also includes text saying “Capture the highlights.” A high-resolution version of the ad was also later spotted on the Internet on Nokia’s website.

A picture of an alleged billboard advertisement showing “Lumia 928” hit the Web over the weekend. That image, which some believe may be edited, shows the device and Verizon’s logo and says “Nokia Lumia928. The best low-light smartphone camera.”

I reached out to Nokia for comment, but the company chose to stay mum. It seems Nokia is trying to build some hype and buzz for its announcement.
