A woman was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon following reports that she was barricaded with a weapon in a San Jose State library bathroom, according to a campus spokesperson.

A patron at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library reported to security around 10 a.m. that they had seen a woman who was “potentially armed” in the restroom, said Michelle Smith McDonald, a campus spokesperson. The library was quickly evacuated.

Police were able to take the woman into custody, though McDonald could not immediately confirm whether the woman was armed.

“The situation was resolved peacefully,” McDonald said.

A mental heath team was dispatched to the site, though McDonald did not know whether the team had engaged with the woman.

San Jose State campus police and officers from the San Jose Police Department were on the scene.

Students are currently on break, but the library remains open during the holidays for city residents, McDonald said, so it was open to the public Wednesday morning.
