Bradley Cooper to return to Broadway as ‘The Elephant Man’?

Bradley Cooper could go against type for a Broadway revival of “The Elephant Man.”

“We’re going to try to do it on Broadway next fall,” Cooper told E! News. “We’re going to try to nail it down and do a limited run.”

Cooper shaved and twisted his body this summer to play Joseph Merrick, a man who suffered from severe deformities during Victorian-era London, at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts.

The play, which ran from July 25 to Aug. 5, earned Cooper and co-star Patricia Clarkson local critical praise. Larry Murray of Berkshire On Stage wrote, “To watch Cooper and Clarkson work together has to be one of the great moments of the storied Williamstown Theatre Festival.”

Cooper, best known for film roles such as “The Hangover” and “The A-Team,” can be seen onscreen in the road-trip comedy “Hit and Run,” set to open Wednesday. Directed by Dax Shepard (TV’s “Parenthood”) and David Palmer, the film stars Tom Arnold, Kristin Chenoweth and Kristen Bell.

Cooper last appeared on the Great White Way in the 2006 production of “Three Days of Rain” with Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd.
